Introduction of electrophoresis (through separation of food coloring agents on agarose gel using horizontal gel electrophoresis system)

Goal:

In addition to introduce how an electrophoretic system works, students become familiar with the effective factors influencing molecular movement in the electrical field, as well as, they can separate DNA or other charged molecules such as food coloring dyes by performing this experiment. Generally, this kit makes the students familiar with biomaterials’ separation using electrophoresis system.

All lab equipment, materials and chemicals needed for experiment, manual booklet, electrophoresis instrument, ready-to-use agarose gel 1%, food coloring dyes, colored chocolates

Time of experiment: about 45 minutes
